President Jokowi Inspects Mass Vaccination in Merauke Regency

As part of his working visit to Papua province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Sunday (3/10) inspected COVID-19 vaccination drive for the public and students at the Regent’s Office in Merauke regency, which is located in the far south of the province.

The President said he wanted to ensure that the vaccination drive from the country’s westernmost part of Sabang to easternmost part of Merauke runs well and evenly.

“This afternoon I was in Merauke regency to inspect the vaccination program. I want to ensure that the vaccination from Sabang (in Aceh province) to Merauke runs well and evenly,” said the President.

The President also expressed hope that vaccination can provide protection to the public from the transmission of the corona virus, while curbing its spread.

The President also appreciated the enthusiasm of the people of Merauke regency for the vaccination.

“I’d like express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to the traditional leaders and religious leaders who have given understanding to the public. And also to all residents of Merauke and Papua regencies who have been enthusiastic to participate in the vaccination drive organized by the regional government,” he said.

President Jokowi also expressed hope that the enthusiasm of the public for the vaccination program can also be felt in all districts and cities across Papua province.

The President also reminded the public to remain vigilant, disciplined in implementing health protocols, and learn to live side by side with COVID-19 as the virus may never disappear. (BPMI/UN) (EST/EP)
