President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (4/4) inspected Muara Bungo Market in Bungo regency in Jambi province to check the availability of basic commodities and market conditions.

According to the President, enhancing market infrastructure is vital for boosting traders’ welfare and ensuring the local economy’s long-term sustainability.

“The most important thing is to focus on renovating Muara Bungo Market to attract more traders. They avoid selling here because of the poor lighting. It definitely needs some improvements,” the President said.

The President stated that he ordered Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono to promptly initiate rearrangement of the Muara Bungo Market, while expressing hope that the improvement will bring concrete benefit to local traders and the surrounding community.

“I have ordered Minister of PUPR to ensure that the traders feel comfortable selling their products, the market is bustling, and there are enough parking spots so that our traditional market stays busy,” he said.

On that occasion, the Head of State underscored several promising sectors in the province, especially in plantations and small-scale farming.

“There are numerous promising sectors, particularly in community-based plantations, agriculture, and mining. This potential must be well-managed,” he added.

The President also expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality of the people in Jambi.

“This region holds enormous potential, it’s quite apparent. The people here are all wonderful, whether in Jambi, Muara Bungo, Merangin, or Tebo,” the President said.

Regarding the basic commodity prices in Muara Bungo Market, the President said that the prices in the market remain stable.

“Price stability is consistent. Everything is going very well,” the President remarked. (FID/UN) (RIF/RAS/LW)
