President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi on Wednesday (03/29) boarded the diesel electric train (KRDE) from Maros to Rammang-Rammang station in South Sulawesi province.

After traveling 12 kilometers for 20 minutes, the KRDE arrived at Rammang-Rammang station. The President inspected station facilities and booths for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In a statement after the inspection, the President said that the trip with KRDE from Maros to Rammang-Rammang station was very convenient.

The President expressed hope that the train will attract the people to mass transport.

“The trains are good, comfortable and clean. I hope that the people will use the public transport to reduce traffic congestion,” the President said.

The President further said that the Trans Sulawesi railway project will continue with the line spanning from the south to the north.

“The railway is part of our big project of trans Sulawesi from the south region in Makassar to the north region in Manado, North Sulawesi province. This project will be completed in the long run and this is the first railway system in the island of Sulawesi,” the President remarked. (RSF/UN) (RI/MB)
