President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (12/15) inspected the construction of Jakarta Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT) Phase 2A at Monas MRT station in Central Jakarta.

“The construction [progress] of phase 2A from Bundaran HI station to Kota Tua station—from the planned construction target of 27 percent—has now reached 28.4 percent, exceeding the set target,” President Jokowi said.

According to the President, the phase 2A will be in operational by 2027.

“It’s never a walk in the park since you have to work in the hustle and bustle of Jakarta and constructing underground tunnels is also no easy task. Nevertheless, the progress of the project is beyond expectation,” he added.

Once the phase 2A construction is completed, the President continued, the project will continue with phase 2B from Kota Tua station to Ancol station and the Government is currently conducting studies on the continuation of MRT construction from eastern Jakarta to the western part of the city.

“As soon as the studies and calculations have been completed, we will make a decision as Jakarta really needs integrated mass transportation, not stand-alone ones,” President Jokowi remarked. (KS/UN) (GWH/EP)
