President Jokowi Inspects Prices at Danga Market, East Nusa Tenggara
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (12/05) visited Danga Market in Nagekeo regency in Nusa Tenggara Timur province to inspect prices of basic necessities.
The President pointed out that the prices of several basic necessities at the market are better than the prices in the island of Java, adding that one of them is the price of chili that has remained at Rp50,000 per kilogram.
“I visited Danga Market at Nagekeo regency to check [food prices]. I am glad that chili, which currently costs around Rp80,000 and Rp100,000 in Java, costs only Rp50,000 here,” he said in his press statement following the inspection, adding that the price of shallots sold at the market is also cheaper, approximately Rp15,000 per kilogram.
According to the President those prices are lower because of the good production of chilis and shallots in Nagekeo regency.
“In Java, shallot costs Rp24,000-Rp26,000. Here, it costs Rp15,000 because indeed, in my opinion, the production is good. Shallots are planted here. So are chilis. Thus, the prices are good,” he said.
In addition to checking food prices, the President disbursed social assistances and staple food to the local people and vendors at the market. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (DH/LW)
