President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo carried out an inspection at Temenggoeng Djaja Karti market, East Barito regency, Central Kalimantan province, on Thursday (06/27). During the visit, President Jokowi highlighted that price stability is a positive indicator of an effective distribution system.

“Yes, prices are going higher, for instance, whole raw chicken costs Rp38 thousand (per kg), onion and garlic cost Rp35-40 thousand (per kg). Also, cooking oil costs Rp16 thousand (per liter). I think it also happens in Java island, prices are increasing,” President Jokowi said in his press statement at Tamian Layang General Hospital.

President Jokowi considered that the equal prices of basic commodities in Kalimantan island and Java island indicate that distribution and transportation to traditional markets in all regional areas are smooth. The President also perceived that the stocks of basic commodities at the market are still adequate.

“If the price is stable, the stock is available. If the stock declines, then the price will automatically increase,” he added.

During the inspection in Temenggoeng Djaja Karti market, President Jokowi also provided capital aid to some sellers. Ratiani and Wahyu were among the sellers who received the aid and they said they were happy to receive it and planned to improve their business.

The President’s visit to the market did not only focus on price and distribution evaluation, but also it showed that the Government has paid attention to the local people in Central Kalimantan province through its presence and supports. The visit also affirmed the Government’s commitment in ensuring economic stability and welfare of the people. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (AW/MMB)
