President Jokowi Inspects PT. PAL’s First Submarine

As a part of his working visit to East Java, on Monday (27/1), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo conducted an inspection to state-owned shipbuilder PT. PAL (Penataran Angkatan Laut), in Surabaya.

Upon arrival, President Jokowi received an explanation on Alugoro Submarine from President Director of PT PAL Budiman Saleh.

Afterward, the President entered the KRI Alugoro-405 which has a maximum speed of 21 knots underwater, a capacity of 40 people, and an ability to roam the ocean for 50 days.

For the record, this first submarine made by PT. PAL has undergone Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) since mid-January 2020 in Banyuwangi, East Java. This submarine was successfully produced in Indonesia through Ministry of Defense’s cooperation with South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) in a technology transfer scheme.

Also present on the visit were, among others, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of National Land Agency Sofyan A. Djalil, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Presidential Special Staffs M. Fadjroel Rachman and Putri Tanjung. (DID/EN)
