President Jokowi Inspects Readiness of MSMEs, Tourism Infrastructure Ahead of ASEAN Summit
In less than three weeks the hosting of 42nd ASEAN Summit that will take place in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected the region’s readiness to welcome the incoming heads of state/government of ASEAN countries.
Upon arrival at Komodo Airport in West Manggarai, Saturday (22/04), the President inspected facilities and infrastructure at the airport. Afterwards, on his way from the airport to the hotel where he was staying, the President noticed several locations that needed to be beautified to welcome guests from ASEAN countries who would be attending in Labuan Bajo later.
On his second day in Labuan Bajo, Sunday (23/04), the President and First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo visited several tourist attractions that had not been visited before.
Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media Affairs, Presidential Secretariat (BPMI Setpres), Bey Machmudin stated that the President wanted all the tourist attractions in Labuan Bajo to be promoted to the heads of state/government who would be attending later.
“So the President felt it was necessary to visit some of the existing tourist attractions in order to promote the beauty of Labuan Bajo directly and in detail,” said Bey.
One of the tourist attractions visited by the President and First Lady with their family was Batu Cermin Cave. After strolling around the tourist area, the Head of State also visited several micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) stands and purchased several souvenirs that were the result of the work of the people of NTT, such as cloth, bucket hats, and beach hats.
“In the implementation of the ASEAN Summit later, the President expressed hope that these MSMEs can showcase souvenirs with good quality and distinctive regional characteristics, so that guests from ASEAN countries will be interested in buying these MSME products,” said Bey.
