As a part of his working visit to West Kalimantan province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (03/20) inspected the availability and prices of basic commodities in Sebukit Rama Market, Mempawah regency.

“Prices are stable. I see, for example, garlic at Rp40,000 (per kg), shallots at Rp30,000 (per kg), premium rice at Rp17,000 (per kg). I believe the prices are good,” President Jokowi said in a press statement.

The President also highlighted that price stability is one of the Government’s focuses to ease the burden of the people. The Government continues to strive to maintain price balance, especially for medium-grade rice, to avoid harming both farmers and consumers.

“We are controlling the prices carefully so that the price of dry unhusked rice does not fall, ending up hurting the farmers. We maintain a balance between the farmers’ cost of production, which must be profitable and the retail price, which must be good for consumers,” the President said.

On this occasion, President Jokowi also provided working capital assistance for traders at the market. The assistance is expected to help traders increase business capital. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (FI/LW)
