President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (09/01) inspected the readiness of the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), at which the 43rd ASEAN Summit will take place on September 5-7, 2023.

The President arrived at JCC at around 09:30 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and visited the JCC Plenary Hall and the Media Centre of the 43rd ASEAN Summit located in Hall B, JCC.

After the inspection, the President stated that the preparations for the ASEAN Summit are almost fully finalized.

“I see that the preparations are already 99.9% done, and we are ready for the ASEAN Summit. There are small matters that still need to be taken care of, but they can be done within one to two days,” he said.

One of the minor things highlighted by the President is the position of the flags of ASEAN countries which he considered not quite right.

“The flags still need to be placed upwards, just that,” he commented.

Regarding the participation of ASEAN leaders, partner countries, and other invited guests, the President stated that he has received confirmation and the process is currently being handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As for the Summit, the President also added that Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairpersonship, which carries the theme ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth’ has a host of important agendas, one of which is economic growth in the ASEAN region.

“There are many agendas, but we must focus on the economic sector, on ASEAN as the epicentrum of economic growth,” he stated.

Indonesia’s Chairpersonship, the President went on to say, is also focusing on the benefits of the ASEAN Summit for ASEAN people.

“Since the beginning I already said that ASEAN is not only targeting on what is above us, but also what is below us, and that is our people,” he affirmed. (FID/UN) (SI/MUR)
