President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo conducted a working visit to the LIPA Kalabahi Traditional Market, Alor regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, for direct inspection of market conditions and food commodities’ prices. The President also engaged with the traders and local communities during the visit.

President Jokowi stated that the price of food commodities at the LIPA Market is normal although there is a slight difference compared to the prices in Java island.

“I just inspected the prices at the market, especially the prices of food commodities. It is still considered normal although higher than the prices in Java island. Perhaps due to transportation costs,” the President said.

Some of the commodities inspected were garlic, shallots, and chilies. President Jokowi explained that the price of garlic is at Rp55,000 per kilogram, shallots at Rp50,000, and chilies at Rp50,000. “I think it is reasonable,” he added.

The visit was one of the President’s efforts to ensure the daily needs remain affordable for people throughout Indonesia, especially in areas far from distribution centers such as Kalabahi, Alor regency. In addition, the President also discussed business conditions and challenges with the traders, especially related to logistics and transportation.

Not only the merchants, but the market visitors also enthusiastically welcomed the President’s presence in the market. They expressed hope that the Government will continue to pay attention to the eastern Indonesian people’s welfare.

“President Jokowi only came here once in his 2 periods of leadership. However, I am delighted since the infrastructure development runs smoothly and evenly throughout Indonesia. I hope Mr. Jokowi always be healthy and live a long life,” said Ismail, one of the visitors. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (ZI/MMB)
