President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (09/06) visited Soponyono traditional market in the East Java provincial city of Surabaya.

Following the visit, the President said that inflation rate, particularly for food prices, remains in check.

“I checked the price of several commodities such as shallots. It was above Rp40,000 but is now priced at Rp25,000. Egg is priced at Rp24,000,” he said.

The President went on to say that during the visit he acknowledged drop in the prices of several food commodities, adding that the deflation observed over the past four months is due to adequate supply and good distribution.

“So, the drop in inflation rate for the past four months is due to the sufficient supply and the smooth distribution. I checked it myself on the ground,” he remarked. (FID/ABD) (EST/EP)
