President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (10/20) inspected the construction of Tanjung Ular Port in West Bangka regency, Bangka Belitung Islands province.

“This afternoon, I, accompanied by Governor of Bangka Belitung, Regent of West Bangka, Cabinet Secretary, and Minister of Transportation inspect the progress of Tanjung Ular Port construction in Bangka Belitung province. The construction is 99 percent finished, just needed some finishing touches,” the President said after the inspection.

The port is expected to smoothen the mobility of commodities produced by the province.

“We hope that Tanjung Ular Port can support commodities’ mobility, especially CPO and tin, to ensure competitiveness of products from West Bangka regency and Bangka Belitung province,” he added.

In addition, Tanjung Ular Port will initially be managed by Ministry of Transportation and then the management will be handed over to the local government.

“When it is deemed ready, the ministry will hand over the port management to the local government. I think it applies to all ports, since this is a feeder port,” he remarked. (JW/UN) (GWH/MMB)
