President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, on Tuesday (31/08), inspected a vaccination drive at Miftahul Falah Islamic Boarding School, Kuningan Regency, West Java.

Around two thousand students and santris (Islamic students) from various schools and Islamic boarding schools in the regency participated in the vaccination.

On the occasion, the President also took the time to greet and hold a dialogue via videoconference with representatives of educators and students from other Islamic boarding schools who also joined the vaccinations.

Responding to a question from one of the students, Muhammad Alvin Materazzi, from the Al Mas’udiyyah Bandungan Islamic Boarding School, Semarang, Central Java on the estimated completion of vaccination for all Indonesian people, especially for santris and students, President Jokowi explained that the pandemic is happening all over the world. Therefore, every country is currently trying hard to secure COVID-19 vaccines as an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Countries are striving to secure vaccine supply. Only a number of countries produce vaccine, not all countries produce vaccine. Even if we have money, even if we have the budget, it’s not necessarily possible for us to secure the vaccine,” he said.

In this regard, the President said, Indonesia should be grateful because the Government has to date managed to secure 160 million doses of vaccine. He underscored that the Government will continue to work hard to secure the national COVID-19 vaccine needs of 428 million doses.

“There has been a commitment from the vaccine industry and factories, but once again countries are trying to secure for themselves first,” he explained.
