President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (02/25) inspected COVID-19 vaccination held at Bitung Container Terminal in the North Sulawesi coastal town of Bitung.

Vaccination was also carried out simultaneously in other regencies / cities in the province.

On that occasion, the President had a dialogue through a video conference with several representatives of regencies / cities who reported their region’s vaccination coverage.

The President also expressed appreciation to several regions whose vaccination coverage was very high, including the city of Tomohon.

“I suppose [the coverage of] Tomohon city for the first, second, and third [vaccination] is already good and I hope other cities and regencies can do the same. If possible, all regions should have covered more than 70 [percent of the population], that’s already good,” he said, while ordering all regions to boost vaccination by administering booster doses and prioritizing booster vaccination for senior citizens.

“Do continue the first, the second, and then the third [vaccination]. Prioritize senior citizens,” the President said, while expressing hope that everyone in Indonesia can utilize the vaccination program to protect themselves from the coronavirus and to lower the risks if exposed.

“Albeit infected, those who have received the second jab, especially the third jab, usually show no symptoms or only mild symptoms. This is based on actual experiences,” he said, while expressing hope that the number of COVID-19 cases can remain under control with the vaccination program.

“We hope the coverage of the first and the second vaccination is high and then it is strengthened by booster shots. I hope we can reduce and curb the number of individuals exposed to COVID-19,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (DH/EP)
