President Jokowi Installs Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as New Social Minister

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (24/8) at the State Palace, Jakarta, appointed Chairman of the Golkar Party, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, as Minister of Social Affairs.

Agus replaced Idrus Marham, who resigned from his position due to his legal issues with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Agus is the son of senior politician Ginandjar Kartasasmita. He has served as a Golkar lawmaker since 2004 and is currently sitting as secretary of the Golkar faction at the House of Representatives (DPR).

“Ministry of Social Affairs has an urgent task of handling the [post-disaster management] in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province. So we decided to immediately name [Idrus’] successor,” the President said after the inauguration.

Agus was appointed based on the Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 148/P/2018 on  the Dismissal and Appointment of Minister of Social Affairs of the Working Cabinet for the remaining 2014-2019 term, dated 24 August 2018.

Attending the inauguration ceremony were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Manpower Hanif Dhakiri, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Health Nila F. Moeloek, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Marshall Hadji Tjahjanto, and Speaker of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD-RI) Oesman Sapta. (RAH/OJI/ES)
