President Jokowi Installs Andika Perkasa as New TNI Commander

President Jokowi inaugurates Gen. Andika Perkasa as the Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Force (TNI), Wednesday (17/11), at the State Palace, Jakarta.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (17/11) at the State Palace inaugurated Gen. Andika Perkasa as the new Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Force (TNI).

The inauguration is based on Presidential Decree Number 106/TNI/2021 on the Dismissal and Appointment of Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Force (TNI) stipulated in Jakarta on 17 November 2021.

“I do solemnly swear by Allah that I will devote myself to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia that upholds Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and execute all laws and regulations in the fairest way possible for the service to the nation and the people,” the oath reads.

After the oath-taking ceremony, President Jokowi pinned the commander rank on Andika Perkasa and passed the commander’s baton to him.

Previously on Monday (8/11), the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed to elect Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army Gen. Andika Perkasa as the Commander of the TNI.

Andika graduated from Military Academy. His previous positions include Head of Army Information Service, Commander of Presidential Security Details, Commander of Military Area XII/Tanjungpura, Commander of Management of the Army’s Doctrine, Education, and Training (Dankodiklatad), Commander of the Army Strategic Reserves (Pangkostrad) and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army.
