President Jokowi Installs New BNN Chief

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Thursday (1/3) at the State Palace inaugurated Inspector General Police Heru Winarko as the new Chief of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), replacing Commissioner General Police Budi Waseso, who will retire on 1 March.

The inauguration was based on Presidential Decree Number 14/M/2018 on Dismissal and Appointment of BNN Chief dated 28 February 2018.

During the inauguration Heru pledged that he will be loyal to and abide by the 1945 Constitution and will enforce all laws and regulations to the best of his ability for the interests of the state and the nation.

“In performing my tasks and duty, I will uphold ethics of office, work to the best of my ability and will full responsibility. May Allah give ease and strength in carrying out the mandates,” Heru said.

For the record, Heru Winarko is a graduate of the Police Academy in 1985. His former posts include Chief of Lampung Regional Police and was once also posted at Directorate of Special Economy of the Indonesian National Police, Directorate of Anti-Corruption Division of the Indonesian National Police. Heru was also former Deputy to Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for Enforcement Against Corruption Affairs.

Also attending the inauguration ceremony were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung,  Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko,  Minister of State-owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, Minister State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reforms Asman Abnur, Minister of Transportation Budi K. Sumadi, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Bambang Soesatyo, Speaker of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Oesman Sapta Odang, Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Agus Rahardjo, Chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan, Attorney General Prasteyo SH, and Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto. (DNS/JAY/ES) (EP/YM/Naster)
