President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has instructed Commander of the Indonesia National Defense Forces (TNI) Hadi Tjahjanto, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, and Head of the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) Doni Monardo to immediately open road access in Sukajaya Subdistrict, Bogor, West Java, that was blocked due to landslide.

“President Jokowi instructed to make various efforts to open access at the isolated villages in Sukajaya Subdistrict so that the assistances can be distributed immediately,” Doni said.

For the record, President Jokowi and his entourage was initially planned to visit the landslide-affected areas in Sukajaya Subdistrict. However, the plan must be cancelled due to bad weather, making the helicopter that brought them forced to fly back to Bogor’s Atang Sanjaya Airport.

President Jokowi then instructed Minister of PUPR to travel to Sukajaya Subdistrict by road to ensure that the road access in Sukajaya Subdistrict could be opened.

Based on information from the Ministry of PUPR, six villages in Sukajaya Subdistrict were isolated due to landslides, namely Kiarasari, Kiara Pandak, Urug, Cisarua, Cileuksa, and Pasir Madang Villages. The landslides buried dozens of houses and killed a number of people.

The Ministry has sent heavy equipment to the area, including 6 excavators, 1 loader, and 1 bulldozer. (UN / BPMI Secretariat / ES)
