Ninety two years ago on 28 October 1928, the youth from all over Indonesia was united in a congress to take a pledge of the united Indonesia.

“They set aside their differences, took a pledge, and cherished a dream about one motherland, one nation, and one language: Indonesia,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in his official Facebook account on Tuesday (28/10).

Their pledge, he added, is still echoed today. Spirit, willpower, and dream of Indonesian youth will continue to be alive. The President also called on all Indonesians to unite in facing the pandemic, to rise, and strive for an advanced Indonesia.

Echoing the same spirit, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung shared belief that the youth is Indonesia’s power to advance and become a developed country. He added that it is time for Indonesia to shine by making the best use of large demographic bonus.

For the record, this year’s Youth Pledge Day commemoration adopted a theme “Unite and Rise” as the event is commemorated amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. (UN)
