President Jokowi Invites Papuan Prominent Figures to the Palace Next Week

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted that he will invite prominent figures of Papua and West Papua provinces, including traditional, community, and religious leaders to the Palace next week following protests that had sparked in the provinces during the past few days.

“Please note that I will invite prominent figures of Papua and West Papua provinces to the Palace next week,” President Jokowi said when delivering his statement on the current situation in Papua province, at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Thursday (22/8).

The President went on to say that the meeting will discuss ways to accelerate prosperity in Papua and West Papua provinces.

During the press conference, the Head of State also said that he follows the latest development of protest in Papua and added that the situation returns to being conducive.

Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah, the situation returns to being normal, apologies have been made and it showed our magnanimous heart in respecting each other as fellow countrymen,” he added.

Regarding internet blackout in the provinces, President Jokowi asserted that the measure was taken for the sake of national interest.

The President also confirmed that he already ordered Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to take firm legal action against racial and ethnic discrimination. (HIM/OJI/ES)
