The integration of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) transportation management cannot be delayed any longer due to enormous losses, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“Based on the study of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), there is a loss of Rp 65 trillion due to traffic congestion in Jabodetabek annually. The Vice President and the Governor even conveyed a figure of up to Rp 100 trillion. This is a huge amount, so it needs to be resolved immediately,” the President said in his remarks during a Limited Cabinet Meeting on Jabodetabek Transportation Management Policy, at the Presidential Office on Monday (19/3).

On that occasion, The President also emphasized the importance of letting go of sectorial, ministry, or regional egos and making the problem as national interest.

The President went on to say that integrating urban transportation systems with spatial planning is very important and there should be a continuity between modes of transportation, such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), Transjakarta (Bus Rapid Transit), KRL (Commuter Line), and others.

President Jokowi further said that these steps will greatly reduce Jabodetabek traffic congestion. With the completion of the MRT, LRT and other modes of transportation, he also expressed hope that the people will get safe, comfortable, and better mass transportation services. (FID/JAY/ES)
