President Jokowi: Job Creation Law Will not Weaken Regional Gov’t Authorities
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted that Job Creation Law will not recentralize authorities of regional governments to the Central Government.
The President went on to say that permits of doing business and its supervision are still the authorities of regional governments based on Norms, Standards, Procedures, and Criteria (NPSC) stipulated by the Central Government.
“It aims to create great service standard in all regions. The NPSC will be stipulated under a government regulation,” President Jokowi said in a press release, on Friday (9/10), at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Jakarta.
In addition, the regional governments still have the authority to issue business and non-business permits, there will be no change in that matter. Moreover, business types and procedures in regions will be simplified and standardized. The issuance of permit must be completed in certain period of time to establish service level of agreement. Thus, permit will be approved automatically if it passes the given time.
He also said that Job Creation Law requires derivative regulations such as government regulation and presidential regulation which must be promulgated no later than three months as of the enactment date of this Law.
“We, the Government, are open for inputs from the public. We also welcome inputs and suggestions from the regional (governments),” he said adding that if there is still discontent among the public over the Law, they can propose a judicial review to the Constitutional Court since it is allowed by the State administration system.
