President Jokowi Joins Construction Workers, Environmental Activists to Plant Meranti Trees
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (12/20) joined construction workers and youth environmental activists in the National Axis area in Nusantara Capital, North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province to plant trees.
Upon arrival at around 02:40 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA), President Jokowi inspected the progress of development and reforestation in the area and immediately headed to the tree planting location.
During the event, the Head of State planted Shorea leprosula (light red meranti) along with 200 participants.
One of the students who took part in the planting activity, Dandi, stated that the activity is a great step to preserve the nature. “I hope such activities can raise public awareness so they are willing to protect the environment in the future,” he added.
Dandi also expressed his admiration for Nusantara Capital development, especially at the reforestation location where the trees are planted.
