President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (12/06) participated in a joint tree planting event with local community in Kupang city, East Nusa Tenggara province.

Upon reaching the location, residents of Kupang city warmly welcomed the President at every tree-planting spot and without hesitation, he actively engaged in planting a sandalwood tree.

On that occasion, the President highlighted the significance of planting sandalwood trees as a crucial step in preserving one of East Nusa Tenggara’s endemic plants and encouraged the continuous effort in planting sandalwood trees.

“We will continue to plant endemic plants of the province. These are listed in appendix II and require genuine protection. That way, we continue to plant them,” the President said.

Based on data from Ministry of Environment and Forestry, appendix II comprises a list of species not currently endangered but may face extinction if traded without proper regulation.

Regarding city planning, the Head of State reiterated the Government’s commitment to support the development and enhancement of Kupang city’s urban planning, which aims to create a more organized and environmentally friendly city.

“We are contributing to the city planning in Kupang city, including Kelapa Lima and Oesapa areas. We are initiating the restoration and construction of Kota Lama, with further plans yet to be determined. Our goal is to make Kupang greener and enhance the overall city planning,” he said.

Additionally, the development of Kupang city will be accompanied by improving public services through the construction of various infrastructures in the city.

“Public services are excellent with the inauguration of a large hospital today. This will provide valuable services to the community,” (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/MMB)
