President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Sunday (08/28) kicked off the Merah Putih (red and white) parade, which began in front of the Merdeka Palace.

The parade was joined by community organizations, university students, and the general public.

“I, along with Chief of the Indonesian Police and Habib Luthfi bin Yahya, by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, hereby officially kick off the Merah Putih parade,” the President said.

Member of Presidential Advisory Council Habib Luthfi bin Yahya said that the parade reflected a sense of belonging to the homeland.

“Through the parade, we want to show our commitment to safeguarding the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.

Chief of the Indonesian Police General Sigit Prabowo also pointed out that the parade was part of the measures to protect the unity of the nation amid global uncertainty.

“We are facing numerous challenges, including the Russia and Ukraine war, which will lead to food and energy crisis and bring impact on economic crisis. We need to show our commitment to the unity of the nation,” Sigit said, adding that the parade will strengthen the country’s efforts to achieve the vision of the 2045 Golden Indonesia.
