President Jokowi Kicks Off Riau Islands Working Visit

Following the visit to South Sumatra province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Monday (01/24), continued his working visit to Riau Islands province.

The President, accompanied with Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and his entourage, took off from Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport in the South Sumatra capital of Palembang onboard Indonesia-1 Presidential Aircraft at around 18.00 western Indonesian time.

Shortly upon arrival at Raja Haji Fisabillah Airport in the Riau Islands capital of Tanjungpinang, the President was welcomed by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Governor of Riau Islands Ansar Ahmad, Commander of Joint Defense Area I Vice Admiral Muhammad Ali, Commander of Military Area I/Bukit Barisan Major General Hassanudin, Chief of Riau Islands Regional Police Inspector General Aris Budiman Bulo, Commander of Main Naval Base IV Rear Admiral Dwika Tjahja Setiawan, and Commander of Raja Haji Fisabilillah Air Base Colonel Pilot Andi Wijanarko.

The next day (01/25), the President is set to meet Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong in Bintan regency. The two leaders will also chair a bilateral meeting between delegates of both countries and witness the signing and exchange of several memoranda of understanding.

During his working visit to South Sumatra today, President Jokowi carried out several activities.

First, the President led the groundbreaking ceremony of coal to dimethyl ether (DME) downstreaming industry in Muara Enim regency. He also gave direct cash assistance to merchants at the New Market of Tanjung Enim urban village in the same regency.

Afterward, the President inspected the measures of Pagar Alam City Government to transform the city into a green energy city. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (DH/LW)
