President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo continues to urge Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/the National Land Agency (BPN) officials to speed up the process of land certificate issuance for the land owned by the people.

“There are 126 million parcel of land that need certification throughout the country. At the end of 2015 there were only 46 million parcels that were certified. This means there are still 80 million parcels of land that have not yet been certified,” President Jokowi said at Jogja Expo Center (JEC), Bantul, Yogyakarta, Friday (9/28).

Therefore, President Jokowi said that since 2015 he has urged Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/the National Land Agency (BPN) to create a system to speed up the issuance of land certificates.

“In 2015 I asked the Minister to prepare a system and I want it the implementation to begin in 2017. I want 5 million land certificate to be issued by the BPN Turns out it’s possible. Alhamdulillah, 5 million land certificates were issued last year. This year I’ve set the target of issuing 7 million land certificates all over the country,” President Jokowi said.

The acceleration of land certificate issuance tasked by President Jokowi also requires Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/the National Land Agency (BPN) to work fast as well. Therefore, President Jokowi always sets target in all level of officials. “Targets need to be set. It’s the BPN’s duty to speed up the certification process and serve the people,” he said.

For the record, President Jokowi on that occasion also handed 5000 land certification to the people, with the distribution for 100 residents in Yogyakarta, 1,400 residents in Bantul district, 1,500 residents in Sleman district, 1,000 residents in Kulon Progo district, and 1,000 residents in Gunung Kidul district. The total numbers of land certificates handed to the residents at 5 district/city are 247,459 certificate.

On the occasion, President Jokowi also set the target for Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/the National Land Agency (BPN) to ensure all parcels of land in Yogyakarta can have certificate in 2020.

The President also acknowledged that money is one of the obstacles for the people to have a land certificate as a legal document for their land ownership. “I already spoke to the Minister. For Yogyakarta, all parcel of land should have certificate in 2020. Therefore, I told the Minister to provide budget so that people can have certificate for their land,” President Jokowi said.
