President Jokowi Lauds Vietnam’s VinFast Investment Plan in Indonesia

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo lauded investment plans from Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast in Indonesia.

President Jokowi made that statement during a meeting with Chairman of VinFast Pham Nat Vuong, at the VinFast head office in Hai Phong city, Vietnam, Saturday (01/13).

“We fully support VinFast’s investment plan in Indonesia. You can ask about permits to my minister,” he said.

After that meeting, President Jokowi visited VinFast electric vehicle manufacture and observed the assembly process including installation of electric car battery. He also tried to sit in a VinFast car unit.

The President said that VinFast is one of the fastest growing automotive companies. He also expressed hope that the investment can improve Indonesia’s EV ecosystem and be linked with EV battery industry.

“We expect -as I’ve mentioned before- the ecosystem to be established immediately. Chairman of VinFast has confirmed that construction works will start immediately,” he added. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/LW)
