President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (02/29) launched groundbreaking of PT Bank Mandiri office in Nusantara capital, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan province.

In his remarks, President Jokowi appreciated the construction of office specifically for the digital service.

“I am glad that Bank Mandiri will immediately start the construction of officespecifically for digital services. I acknowledge that the customer of Bank Mandiri’s app Livin has reached 23 million. It is a very big number. Later if it developed here, the figure could be improved,” said the President.

The President expressed belief that Indonesia has a large digital economic potential, including opportunities to bring in digital nomad to Nusantara.

“If the digital ecosystem here has been built, it will bring in the digital nomad because this city will be different from other cities in the world; Not crowded but alive. There is no pollution because the people will use electric vehicles and public transportation,” said the President.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also explained the development of infrastructure that was being massively carried out at Nusantara, including the construction of toll roads and airports that would facilitate connectivity and shorten the travel time to the city.

“From Balikpapan to Nusantara now, we need 1.5 hours or 2 hours. But once the toll road is finished later after June and once the airport is finished, from the airport (to IKN) takes only 45 minutes,” he said.

Furthermore, the President also reminded the importance of management of Nusantara so that it would not lose control like some new capitals in other countries. He emphasized the concept of Forest City and Smart City as the main foundation of Nusantara development as a sustainable city, pollution-free, and supported by electricity-based public transportation.

“This is the future of Indonesia. If the traffic to this city is increasing, the crowd will follow. I have also told the Head of the Nusantara Authority not to lose control in managing the city,” he said. (TGH/UN) (EST/LW)
