President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday (8/17) presided over the commemoration ceremony of the 79th Anniversary of Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia at the State Palace Ceremony Field in the new capital city of Nusantara, Penajam Paser Utara regency, East Kalimantan province.

This year, President Jokowi led the ceremony at Nusantara while the Vice President Ma’ruf Amin led the ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

Prior to the ceremony, both duplicates of the national flag and the proclamation text were carried out from the storage room in the Nusantara State Palace’s Flag Room to the ceremonial table and honor podium by the 2023 national flag-hoisting troop alumni. The commander of the ceremony was Infantry Colonel Nur Wahyudi, Commander of Unit 81, the Army’s Special Forces Command (Kopassus).

The commemoration was commenced with 17-gun salute followed by the sound of sirens for one minute.

Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani read out the Proclamation Text. Afterward, the President, as the ceremony’s inspector, led the participants to observe a moment of silence.

“To honor the services of the nation’s heroes and fighters, especially the founding fathers, Bung Karno and Bung Hatta, the moment of silence begins,” said the President. Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqud Cholil Qoumas then recited the prayer.

The New Nusantara national flag-hoisting troop (Paskibraka), part of the 76 members of the 2024 Paskibraka, solemnly raised the Red-and-White national flag.
