President Jokowi Leads Cabinet Meeting on 2018 Asian Games

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, led the 11th limited cabinet meeting on preparation for XVIII Asian Games which will be held in the near future.

“In this limited cabinet meeting I want to ensure the readiness of infrastructure, both venue and non-venue,” President Jokowi said in his introductory remarks at the meeting held at the President’s office, Jakarta, Monday (28/5).

President Jokowi added that the preparation includes the event organizing from the opening ceremony, sports matches and closing ceremony, and the preparation of Indonesian athletes competing in the upcoming Asian Games.

“I am going to address (the issues) briefly,” President Jokowi said.

On the occasion, President Jokowi specifically requested the report on the preparation for security affairs. The President expressed his hope that the Asian Games contestants feel safe to come to Indonesia and that the security will be under control.

President Jokowi paid special attention to the publication, promotion and marketing of the XVIII Asian Games. According to the President, it seems that the Indonesian National Defense Force (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are the only institutions that actively promoted the multi-sport event in Jakarta and other regions.

Also attending the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara, Minister of Transportation Budi K. Sumadi, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Force (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) General Tito Karnavian, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin, Chairman of National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Tono Suratman, Chairman of Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI / INASGOC) Erick Thohir, and West Java Regional Secretary Iwa Karniwa.
