President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (03/08) led the groundbreaking ceremony for Paralympic Training Center in Karanganyar regency, Central Java province.

According to the President, the training center that has been conceived long ago is built to boost the achievement of the Indonesian paralympic athletes.

“I hope the training center for paralympic athletes can be used effectively for training and can be a motivation so all athletes train regularly and make better achievement,” President Jokowi said.

The President added that the training center which is built on an eight hectare-land with a budget of Rp409 billion is equipped with international standard facilities and targeted to be completed this year.

“The Paralympic Training Center in Karanganyar regency includes sports halls, dormitory building, and athletic field, equipped with main pool, recovery pool, boccia court, shooting range, table tennis court, badminton court, and multifunction room,” he said.

Situated in a location near Lawu mountain with fresh air, the training center is expected to be an ideal place for training.

The Head of State also expressed hope that Indonesian athletes can improve their achievements, especially in ASEAN Para Games and Asian Paralympic.

“I am glad that in SEA Games, we always get the first place, in ASEAN Paralympic we were at the 6th place, or sometimes at the 8th place, but the last one, we were at the 6th place, it is excellent. In Southeast Asia, we always be the grand champion. I hope that the achievements will be far better and become inspiration, give the nation and the country a good name,” he remarked.
