President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo leads a ceremony to commemorate Pancasila Sanctity Day, at Pancasila Sakti Monument, Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 10, 2024. President Jokowi, accompanied by Minister for Defense Prabowo Subianto, Minister for Education, Culture, Research, Technology, and Higher Education Nadiem Anwar Makarim, the Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces General Agus Subiyanto, and the Chief of the Indonesian National Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, entered the ceremony venue at the Pancasila Sakti Monument at around 07.55 Western Indonesian Time.

The ceremony began by the singing of Indonesia’s national anthem “Indonesia Raya”. Then, the ceremony commander, Police Grand Commissioner I Ketut Gede Adi Wibawa, reported to the President as the ceremony inspector that the ceremony was ready to be carried out.

Afterward, the ceremony inspector led the moment of silence to commemorate the services of the fallen heroes of the nation.

“To commemorate the services of the nation’s heroes, especially the heroes of the revolution, a moment of silence begins,” the President said.

Afterward, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo read the Pancasila manuscript, followed by the reading of the preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia by Speaker of the Regional House of Representatives (DPD) La Nyalla Mattalitti.

During this ceremony, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, read and signed the pledge of loyalty to Pancasila

The following is the pledge read and signed by Speaker of the DPR:

“By the grace of God Almighty, we who carry out this ceremony are fully aware that since the proclamation of the independence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 1945, in reality, there have been many disturbances both from within the country and abroad to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia;

that the disturbances were made possible by the carelessness and lack of vigilance of the Indonesian people towards activities that seek to overthrow Pancasila as the state ideology; that with the spirit of togetherness based on the noble values of the Pancasila ideology, the Indonesian nation can still safeguard the establishment of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. So, before the God Almighty, in commemorating Pancasila Sanctity Day, we are determined to continuously maintain and practice the values of Pancasila as a source of strength, to unite together to fight for and uphold truth and justice for the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.”

After the pledge reading, Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas recited the prayer.

After the prayer recitation, the ceremony commander performed a grand salute to the ceremony inspector. Then, the ceremony inspector left the podium, together with the entourage, to visit Pancasila Sanctity Monument and Lubang Buaya Memorial Complex.

Previously, in a post on his personal social media account, President Jokowi invited all components of the nation to always maintain the Pancasila values in the life of our nation and country. He also emphasized the importance of practicing it in everyday life.

“Pancasila Sanctity Day reminds us that national values are not just a legacy, but a mandate that must be maintained continuously. Amidst the challenges in these modern times, let us reflect on how far we have practiced Pancasila in our daily lives,” the President wrote on his X account @Jokowi. (TGH/ABD) (AW/LW)
