After a joint press statement on the Malaysian Prime Minister’s official visit to Indonesia, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin performed Friday prayer at the Baiturrahim Mosque, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Friday (05/02).

The Friday prayer was carried out according to health protocols including maintaining distance, setting the shaf (rows) with gaps, wearing masks, and other established health protocols.

On the occasion, Muhammad Ramli led the Friday prayer while the Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque Nasaruddin Umar delivered khutbah (sermon) on the urgency of vaccination in Islamic views.

The khutbah explained that vaccination is part of an effort to prevent the spread of diseases, so Muslims are obliged to make every effort to avoid calamity and harm for themselves and others.

“Vaccination is a form of an effort to achieve recovery or prevent disease transmission. Prophet Muhammad PBUH strongly encourages people to seek treatment when suffering from any illness because the Prophet said that every disease has a cure except for death,” Nasaruddin said.

Nasaruddin has also appealed to all parties to comply with health protocols in order to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 transmission.

After the prayer, the President and his Malaysian counterpart will participate in a luncheon at the State Palace, Jakarta. The Prime Minister will immediately return to Malaysia in the afternoon. (BPMI/UN) (FI/MUR)
