President Jokowi Meets with Habibie, Try Sutrisno to Discuss Matters on Nation

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo met with the 3rd President of the Republic of Indonesia Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie and former Vice President Try Sutrisno in a separate meeting held at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (19/1), discussed a number of issues regarding the nation.

Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, who was accompanying President Jokowi during the meetings, explained that the President’s meetings with the leaders of the nation are actually utilized by the Head of State to exchange views about the social condition of Indonesia. “Pak Habibie exchanged views on social conditions in Indonesia, Pancasila (state ideology), pluralism, and tolerance,” Pratikno told reporters in the lobby of the Main Building of the Ministry of State Secretariat, on Thursday (19/1) afternoon.

During the meeting, Habibie said that President Jokowi has a big capital to maintain a tolerant life. Moreover, he continued, the Indonesian Muslim community is a tolerant one.

Habibie believes and tells President Jokowi that Indonesia has a strong capital to maintain Bhinneka Tunggal Ika or unity in diversity. In addition, he also gave his input on technology development in Indonesia. “Habibie also gave advice on how to prioritize technology development that has a high-added value. There are some technical things about it that was discussed earlier,” Pratikno said.

With regard to the high-added value technology development, President Jokowi shares the same view. Especially regarding the opening of employment opportunities through the development of technology industry. “The President strongly agreed to develop an industry that has high-added value. How to give broad implications for the workforce, economic-added value, and provide opportunities for workers. One of them is aircraft industry,” Pratikno said.

Pancasila Stabilization Board

Before receiving B.J. Habibie, President Jokowi also received former Vice President Try Sutrisno at the Presidential Palace at around 9:30 am Western Indonesian Time.

President Jokowi also exchanged views about the current circumstances of the Indonesian people, particularly regarding the issue of establishing the Pancasila Stabilization Board. “The point of the meeting is to discuss the stabilization of Pancasila. Pak Try appreciates the President to make extra efforts for the stabilization of Pancasila immediately,” Pratikno said.

On the occasion, according to Pratikno, Try Sutrisno provided many inputs to President Jokowi regarding the planned establishment of the Board. Try Sutrisno delivered such inputs through his book which discusses the stabilization of Pancasila. “Pak Try gave inputs on the consolidation of Pancasila in his book. The President read and made circles on some ideas in the book. It will be delivered for the Pancasila stabilization program,” Pratikno said.

Pratikno explained that the presence of the two nation’s figures is initiative from both who request for audience to the President. Pratikno explained that President Joko Widodo was very happy with the arrival of the two figures. “Coincidentally, Pak Try and Pak Habibie applied for an audience with the President and we set the schedule.
