As part of his working visit to Maluku province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (09/15) inspected and met with local buffalo breeders in Werwaru village, Moa island, Southwest Maluku regency.

On that occasion, the President also engaged in a dialogue with the breeders and listen to their aspirations.

According to Head of Werwaru Village Elias Tenggawna, the population of buffalo in the region is decreasing due to natural factors that affect livestock farming, especially drought.

“The obstacle on Moa island is water. Thousands of buffaloes die during the dry season,” Elias said, while asking the Central Government to assist with the problem of water shortage.

In respond to the issue, the President immediately ordered Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono to build one reservoir in each village.

“Well, I have ordered the Minister of Public Works to make a reservoir right away,” the President said.

The buffalo breeders also expressed appreciation for the President’s response to help overcome this problem and for the visit to the region.

“We appreciate you very much for visiting our faraway place,” said Elias. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/LW)
