President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (04/10) stopped by a street vendor’s stall with a banner attached while heading to the corn planting location in Klamesen sub-district, Mariat district, Sorong regency, West Papua.

A street vendor unfurled a banner that reads “Welcome Mr. Jokowi. Please, pay attention to us, street vendors” on the side of Basuki Rahmat street, Sorong.

In the afternoon, after giving directives to the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) throughout West Papua province, the President ordered Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono to take him back to the location where the banner was unfurled before returning to the airport to head back to Jakarta.

Arriving at the location, the President approached a cake and bread street vendor named Juhari who unfurled a banner to ask for assistance.

“What was that? It seemed like demonstrations [the banners],” the President asked.

Juhari said that she purposely wrote on 1×1 meter white paper because the President paid a visit to the region.

On that occasion, the President also gave additional capital to Juhari to run her business. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RIF/MUR)
