President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (08/30) monitored supplies and prices of food commodities at Grogolan Baru Market in Pekalongan City, Central Java province.

According to the President, prices of several food commodities at the market are relatively good.

“Yes, it is a frequent occasion. During visits to every city, every regency, and every province, I always check prices at markets.  I noticed that [the prices] are good here,” he said in his press statement following the monitoring.

However, President Jokowi noticed that the prices of some food commodities have experienced an increase, one of which is the price of rice.

“The [price] of rice slightly increased, and I guess many other [food commodity] prices decreased. [The price of] onions decreased, so did [the prices of] chicken meat  and eggs. I suppose that it is good. Only the rice price that slightly increased,” he said.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also distributed social assistance for the vendors at Grogolan Baru Market. Not only that, the President and his spouse Iriana also bought some products sold by the local vendors.

Also accompanying President Jokowi in the monitoring were, among others, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Chief of the Indonesian National Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces Yudo Margono, Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranomo, and Mayor of Pekalongan Achmad Afzan Arslan Djunaid.
