Indonesia’s new capital will be located on the island of Kalimantan, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has announced.

“So far, (the new capital) will be located in one of these provinces, namely Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan,” the President said on his Facebook fanpage, Thursday (8/8).

The President also said that all aspects of the relocation process — financing scheme, institutional design, legal basis —  are being studied thoroughly to be in line with Indonesia’s vision, adding that the Government has considered the pros and cons of capital relocation through other countries’ experiences and will adopt successful steps from them.

“In deciding the capital relocation, I put myself as head of state, not the head of government. I must consider the great vision of our nation for the next 10, 50, 100 years,” President Jokowi said.

President Jokowi on some occasions has previously said that he will announce the location for the new capital by this month. (ES)
