President Jokowi: No Law Protection for Corruption Case
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has emphasized that he will not protect those involved in corruption following the arrest of Minister of Social Affairs Juliari Batubara as a suspect over COVID-19 aid graft.
The President also said that he will respect all legal process at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Government will continue to support efforts to prevent and eradicate corruption.
“I respect the legal process that is currently underway at the KPK and I also feel the need to reiterate that I have reminded all ministers of the Cabinet: No corruption!” said President Jokowi on Sunday (6/12).
He expressed belief that the KPK will work transparently, openly, and professionally.
The President also emphasized that state officials should create a system that gives no access to corruption be it state budget or regional budgets for provinces, regencies and cities.
“That is the money of our people, let alone this is related to social assistance for handling COVID-19 and restoring the national economy. Social assistance is really needed for the people,” said the President.
Regarding the appointment of new Minister of Social Affairs, President Jokowi said that he will appoint Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy to carry out the duties of Minister of Social Affairs temporarily. (BPMI / UN) (EST/MUR)
