There is no urgency to assign personnel of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to Government Ministries/Agencies, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has stated.

The President delivered the statement during an interview after inspecting a coconut plantation in Sukoharjo regency, Central Java province, Thursday (08/11).

“I don’t see any urgency [to assign TNI or Polri Personnel to Government Ministries/Agencies],” the President said.

For the record, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan previously stated his point of view regarding the need for amendment to the TNI Law so that active personnel of the TNI or Polri could serve in Government Ministries/Agencies.

“I am of the view that the TNI Law could be amended to allow the TNI personnel to serve in Government Ministries/Agencies at the request of the Ministries/Agencies and with the approval of the President,” Luhut said at the National Gathering of the Indonesian Military Retirees Association in Sentul, Bogor regency, Friday (08/05).
