The Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association (IPNU) and the Nahdlatul Ulama Female Student Association (IPPNU) play a pivotal role in preparing cadres of the Indonesia’s largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to become noble humans in the country, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“NU students should not believe in hoaxes widely spread on social media,” the President said at the Opening of the 2018 IPNU and IPPNU Congress at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday (21/12).

According to him, although the hoaxes are often illogical, millions of people, unfortinatley, still believe it; thus, he added, everyone has shared responsibility to tackle the spread of hoaxes that do not educate the people and society.

President Jokowi also explained that Indonesian people are currently in the process of hijrah, or migration from bad habits to good habits; therefore, to speed up the process, noble human beings with high intelligence and nationalism spirit are needed.

In his closing remarks, President Jokowi also urged the NU students to excel in the latest technological development, such as robotic, artificial intelligence, internet of things, blokchain, cryptocurrency and virtual reality to keep up with the global changes, while at the same time continue upholding standard of morality.
