President Jokowi Offers Condolences Over Diver’s Death

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed his condolences over the death of Syachrul Anto, one of the divers that involved in the process of evacuating the Lion Air JT 610 which crashed in Tanjung Karawang, West Java on Monday, 29 October 2018.

“I offered my deep condolences over the death of Pak Syachrul Anto. May God rest his soul and give strength to the bereaved family,” the President said at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Jakarta, Saturday (3/11).

President Jokowi appreciated Syachrul’s enormous role and contribution in search and evacuate process of victims and in retrieve aircraft components such as black box and aircraft debris.

“There are 859 volunteers involved in the process of evacuation, search, and retrieve the aircraft’s black box in these five days non-stop. I hope that there will be no more divers died on their duties,” the President said.

For the record, Syachrul is a volunteer with the Indonesian Diver Rescue Team (IDRT). The 48-year-old man died from decompression while on duty on Friday, 2 November 2018. (BPMI/EN)
