In respond to a number of critics regarding the establishment of the Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) on investigation of Novel Baswedan case, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo explained that it is based on recommendation from the National Human Rights Commission.

“It is (the recommendation) not come from the Government, yet it is from the National Human Rights Commission on 21 December 2018,” the President told reporters after reviewing the Online Single Submission (OSS) service at One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) of the Coordinating Investment Board (BKPM), Jakarta, Monday (14/1).

The recommendation, the President continued, is made to speed up the investigation process of the case. The team consists of members of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Indonesian National Police (Polri) and several experts.

“My responsibility is to monitor the case to be resolved immediately,” President Jokowi emphasized.

For the record, Novel Baswedan, a KPK’s senior investigator, was injured on his face in an acid attack in April 2017. Since then, the case has not been resolved yet.

Polri Chief General Tito Karnavian had signed the assignment letter Number Sgas/3/1/HUK.6.6/2-19 concerning the establishment of a joint team to investigate and immediately resolve the case. The joint team consists of 65 people from various parties who are set to work from 8 January to 7 July 2019.
