President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo in his remarks at the opening of 26th National MTQ Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (Quran Recital Competition) on Saturday (30/7), at Astaka Utama Islamic, Mataram, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, said that this is the time for Indonesia to become the center of Islamic thought and Islamic studies.

Moreover, other countries must notice and learn that Indonesian Islam has its own formula which is a moderate Islam, unlike other countries which are still discovering their own formulas.

“Therefore, I have issued Presidential Regulation Number 57 of 2016 on the Establishing of International Islamic University. I hope this university will be the center of knowledge, Islamic studies, Islamic moral, and a fortress of a tawazun (balance) Islam, tasamuh (tolerant) Islam, and musawah (egalitarian) Islam,” President Jokowi added.

The President also asserted  that the Government longs for a peace, safety, and beautiful life in nation and state. Therefore, he called on everyone to maintain the togetherness in the life of nation and state.

“Let us mantain our optimism in facing global challenges that are getting harder,” the President warned.

In his remarks, President Jokowi also said that many people are criticize, hate, underestimate, mocke others and do not respect others. Those behaviours are getting intense during political contests, including in the governor, regent, mayor, presidential, and congressman’ elections.

“They do not see other candidates as friends, or partner, but as enemies that must be eliminated. They forget that they will pay for their sins in the afterlife that will burn them,” President Jokowi said.

Relating to the event, President Jokowi hopes MTQ which has been imprinted in the society, will be developed, not only in the term of syiar and the quality in the implementation of the event, but also can brighten the muslim community and Indonesians.

“The National MTQ must be well-grounded in fact to make the Holy Qur’an easily understood and applied by the people,” the President added.

President Jokowi asserted that achievement is not the only objective and purpose of the MTQ, but syiar and dakwah how people can understand the meaning of Qur’an and to apply in everyday’s life are also the main objective. People must use the Qur’an as their breath, fundamental life guide, and as the personalities.

“I hope we can hold firmly the essence, meaning, and purpose of the MTQ so that we can absorb, instill, and reflect the meaning of Qur’an in our lives,” the President stated.

President Jokowi believes when someone echoes the Qur’an, he or she also promotes the values of humanity and social, the values of defending the weak, the needy, and the poor.

“Instead of the values of the greed, that makes us only collect worldly treasures and count it,” he added.

Therefore, President Jokowi called on every participant in this year’s MTQ to manifest the event as a stimulant to improve appreciation of the love and implementation of Islamic teaching which is rahmatan lil Alamin (blessing for the whole world).
