President Jokowi Opens Bali Cultural Carnival

By shaking Okokan (Balinese traditional music instrument in a shape of big cow bell), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officially opened the Bali Cultural Carnival at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Nusa Dua, Bali province, Friday (12/10).

The event was held on the sidelines of the  2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – World Bank Group (WBG).

“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I officially opened the Balinese Cultural Carnival,” the President. said

In the meantime, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster in his remarks said that the theme of the event is “The Life Economic of Bali”. He added that Bali is widely known as Pulau Cinta or the Island of Love.

For the record, the Balinese Cultural Carnival event began with shaking the Okokan, followed by Ketuk Bumi ritual, Ogoh-ogoh (statue or giant doll) attractions, and gebogan parade (Balinese offering consist of flowers and fruits stacked on top of one another forming cylindrical tower).

Also attending the event were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, and Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster.
