President Jokowi thought that Indonesian products exhibited at the 31st Trade Expo Indonesia in JIEXPO, Kemayoran, are really good. Therefore, the President asked the Minister of Trade, Minister of Industry, as well as business associations to have courage to penetrate new markets that so far have never been thought of.

“For instance, India and African markets which populations are more than 60-80 millions. They should be taken into account,” the President said after the opening of the 31st Trade Expo Indonesia in JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/10) morning. On that occasion, the President also reminded to pay attention to the design of the products.

President Jokowi praised the products made in villages. The craftspeople made lamp shades from bamboo and pandanusbags which designs are good.“If it is continued, the grade of our products will improve. They will be able to enter high-end market if their designs are good,” the President said.

Regarding the packaging, the President asked assistance from the Ministry of Trade since Indonesian products have started to enter South Korea and Egypt. “We produce a lot of products but do not pay attention to the packaging. It must be started from now on. I think that design and packaging are really important so that these products are able to enter foreign or export markets,” the President said.

According to the President, massive promotions have been started. The fund has been collected in one place. Previously, there were 17 ministries/institutions that had promotion fund but it was not integrated. As a result, the fund was not used wisely and the goals could not be achieved.“After the fund is collected in one place, it will be used to penetrate our desired markets,” the President said.

Africa would be a new market for Indonesian products, in particular for the low-end products. The products that cannot enter high-end markets, the President said, can enter the markets in Africa.

“We also never pay attention to India whose population is quite big. This country’s market can be our opportunity. Other countries, for example Bangladesh, Latin America, and Iran start to open their markets and Indonesia must penetrate them,” the President further said.

There were 1,100 national business people participating at the 31st Trade Expo Indonesia. Those participants come from small and medium enterprises, national private companies, State-Owned Enterprises, Regional–Owned Enterprises, regional governments, and ministries/institutions. Meanwhile, there were 15,562 buyers from 120 countries that had confirmed their attendance.

At the Opening, President Jokowi also handed over Primaniyarta and Primaduta Awards to Indonesia’s best exporters. (DND/ES)(MMB/YM/Naster)
