President Joko “Jokowi’ Widodo is optimistic that Pencak Silat will bag more than two golds at the 18th Asian Games to be held from 18 August to 2 September 2018. The President expressed his optimism after visiting the venue for Pencak Silat at Padepokan Pencak Silat, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, on Monday (6/8) morning.

Minister of Youth and Sports has informed the President that the target is two golds. However, after reviewing the preparation of the athletes, President Jokowi believed that this sport will bag more golds.

For the record, Pencak Silat will make its debut as one of the sports in the 18th Asian Games. In this sport, the contingent of Indonesia will compete in 16 events at the games: 10 duel events and 6 artistic events.

On this visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Youth and Sports and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono. (DND/ES) (MMB/YM/Naster)
