President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to support investment realization.

“The State Budget only contributes approximately 15 to 18 percent to our economic growth. The 85 percent of the money circulation and economic growth come from the private sector and State-Owned Enterprises. Therefore, if there are any problems in investment sector, you must play a role in solving them and in supporting the investment realization because investment is the key to our economic growth,” the President said in his directives to Regional Chiefs of the Polri, Friday (12/03).

The President further said that the investment is not only carried out in the island of Java, but also outside the Java which constitutes 51.7 percent (of the national investment), higher to that in the island of Java with 48 percent.

“The existing investment, new investment, and the prospective investment must be supported. I have ordered the National Police Chief to ensure that Regional Police Chiefs who are not able to support our strategic national policies must be replaced,” the President said.

For the record, the Indonesian economy is starting to grow after previously being in a minus growth due to the pandemic. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the national economy was still minus 2.19 percent while in the first quarter of 2021 it started to grow to minus 0.74 percent.

In the second quarter of 2021, the Indonesian economic grew by 7.07 percent. In July, due to the emergence of Delta variant (of COVID-19), the Government imposed activity restrictions on people’s mobility, and the national economy dropped to 3.51 percent.

The President expressed hope that the national economy in the fourth quarter of 2021 can grow in the range of 4.5 to 5.5 percent.

“If the situation is under control, in 2022 the economic recovery will be visible. In the current circumstances, the driving force of economic growth is the investment,” the President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RI/MMB)
